This notice explains what information Slate Mesa collects through slatemesa.com, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. Questions about it can be sent to drew@slatemesa.com.

Information you provide
When you submit an inquiry through the contact form, we collect the information you enter: your name, organization or law firm, email address, phone number if you provide it, the nature of your inquiry, a summary of the matter or project, any relevant deadline, and how you heard about us.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, slatemesa.com records standard technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected through cookies and similar technologies operated by Squarespace, which hosts the site, and is used to operate, secure, and understand use of the website.
We do not use advertising trackers or share visitor data with advertising networks.
Professional contact information from other sources
Slate Mesa may contact attorneys and law firms using professional contact information that appears in public court records and other professional sources, solely to introduce its services. Every such message identifies who sent it and explains how to ask not to be contacted again.
How information is used
We use the information described above to:
respond to your inquiry;
perform conflict screening before any engagement is considered;
scope, administer, and bill engagements;
operate, secure, and improve the website, including preventing spam; and
meet legal and professional obligations.
We do not sell or rent personal information or use it for targeted online advertising.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to operate the site and handle correspondence:
Squarespace hosts the website, stores contact form submissions, and provides site analytics.
Google provides email through Google Workspace and spam protection through reCAPTCHA.
We may also disclose personal information with your permission; to our own professional advisers, such as attorneys and accountants, who are bound by duties of confidentiality; or when required by law, subpoena, or court order.
Inquiries and professional relationships
Submitting an inquiry does not establish a professional engagement or create a physician-patient or attorney-client relationship. Please provide only a general description of your inquiry and do not include medical records, patient-identifying information, privileged communications, or confidential case materials. If we agree in writing to work together, we will provide separate instructions for securely transmitting records.
How long information is kept
Inquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted from our form records and email within 24 months of our last correspondence. Where an engagement follows, related records are kept for as long as professional and legal record-keeping obligations require.
We may keep a minimal record beyond these periods for two purposes only: the parties and matter involved, to identify conflicts of interest in future matters; and your name and email address, to honor a request not to be contacted again.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask us not to contact you again, by writing to drew@slatemesa.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. Some information may need to be retained to meet legal obligations, for conflict screening, or to honor a request not to be contacted, as described above.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, and this website does not currently respond to those signals differently.
Children
This website is intended for legal, healthcare, and business professionals. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
